10:1–43 The hostility anticipated in 9:1, 2 begins to emerge; in ch. 10 the hostile nations to the south are overthrown by remarkable divine intervention. The scheming of the five kings (v. 4) and their destruction (v. 26, 40–42) is like what is described in Ps. 2 (9:1, 2 note), and demonstrates the great power of God to fulfill His promises. This is the kind of battle described in Deut. 20, not ultimately fought by Israel but by God (v. 14 and Deut. 20:4).
