The success of the conquest is emphatically portrayed in terms of obedience to the commands of God given through Moses (1:1–18; 1:1, 3; 5:15 and notes). The writer makes the closest possible connection between the promises of God (v. 6 note) and His commands. Faith and obedience cannot be separated. See note 1:7.
