Josh 13:8–33

13:8–33 As the summary of the conquest in ch. 12 began with the kings and their territory east of the Jordan (12:1–6; cf. 1:12–15), so the account of the distribution of the land begins with the allocation of this territory to the tribes of Reuben (vv. 15–23), Gad (vv. 24–28), and the half-tribe of Manasseh (vv. 29–31) in the days of Moses. In this way what Joshua does is seen as the completion of what Moses began, and the unity of all Israel is affirmed, despite the geographical boundary of the Jordan (22:25) and the lapse of time between the work of Moses and Joshua. See ch. 22.
