22:71 Jesus had conceded to the Sanhedrin’s charge that He claimed to be the Son of God, and as far as they were concerned He was guilty of blasphemy (cf. Matt. 26:65). Persuading the Romans would require a different charge, but for the Sanhedrin the matter was over. Jesus was guilty in their eyes, and it remained only to secure His execution.
