Christian baptism is not identical with the baptism of John for, although it retains the symbolism of repentance and purification (Acts 22:16; Eph. 5:26), it is performed in the name of the triune God (28:19) and symbolizes our union with Christ in His death and resurrection (Rom. 6:3–6; 1 Cor. 12:13; Gal. 3:27; Col. 2:12).
