5:15 vengeance. God’s vengeance takes place when He secures His sovereignty by delivering His people and punishing their guilty oppressors. Only the sovereign Lord Himself has the ultimate right to use force to protect His kingdom, and the exercise of force by an individual or community without divine authorization springs from unbelief (Deut. 32:35; Rom. 12:19–21).
