25:20 vinegar on soda. The application of vinegar to “soda” (a cleansing agent such as baking soda) renders the latter useless. Another possible translation is, “like vinegar on a wound.” Just as taking away someone’s coat or pouring vinegar on wounds causes pain, so also does frivolity in the presence of sorrow (Ps. 137:3, 4; Rom. 12:15).
