10:6–8 Deuteronomy exhibits God’s salvation as achieved not by humanity’s strenuous efforts, but by divine grace bringing it near. In particular, Deut. 30 sets this in the context of an anticipated return from exile-judgment (Deut. 30:1–6). Paul sees this fulfilled in the new covenant in Christ (Jer. 31:31–34, cf. 2 Cor. 3:7–18). Thus Christ was the end (goal) of the Mosaic law. To seek a self-established righteousness now is the equivalent of attempting to do what God alone could do and has done, in Christ’s incarnation and resurrection.
