11:20 While the rejoinder to Paul in v. 19 is formally true, the breaking off of the Jewish branches was an act of righteous judgment on unbelief, and the ingrafting of the Gentiles is a matter of grace and therefore of faith. Their ingrafting (v. 19) is not therefore based on any superior quality in the Gentiles.
