This we will do to them: we will even let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore unto them.”

This [is what] we will do to them: we will let them live, so that the wrath [of God] does not come upon us for [violating] the oath which we have sworn to them.”

but the leaders reminded them, “We promised these people in the name of the Lord God of Israel that we would let them live, so we must not harm them. If we break our promise, God will punish us. We'll let them live, but we'll make them cut wood and carry water for our people.”
This we will do to them, and let them live, lest wrath come upon us, because of the oath which we swore unto them.
But this we mill do to them: Let their lives be saved, lest the wrath of the Lord be stirred up against us, if we should be forsworn.
This is what we must do. We must let them live. We cannot hurt them or God will be angry with us because we broke the promise we made to them.
But this is what we will do. We will let them live, because we made a strong promise to do that. Then God will not punish us.
This is what we should do with them: We will keep them alive so that there will not be anger against us because of the oath that we swore to them.”

We must let them live because of our promise; if we don't, God will punish us.

The leaders were united in their response to the congregation: “We promised them in the presence of the God of Israel. We can’t lay a hand on them now. But we can do this: We will let them live so we don’t get blamed for breaking our promise.” Then the leaders continued, “We’ll let them live, but they will be woodcutters and water carriers for the entire congregation.” And that’s what happened; the leaders’ promise was kept.
This is what we will do to them. We will let them live so that wrath will not come upon us due to the oath that we swore to them.”
We must let them live to avoid the Lord’s anger because of the oath we swore.”
Let us therefore let them live, and so deal with them that no wrath fall upon us because of the oath we have sworn to them.”

but we shall do this thing to them; be they kept that they live, lest the ire of the Lord be stirred against us, if we forswear us to them; (but we shall do this to them; let them be kept alive, lest the Lord’s anger be stirred up against us, if we break our oath to them;)
this we do to them, and have kept them alive, and wrath is not upon us, because of the oath which we have sworn to them.'
