⁴⁸ Then the king ^[a](A)promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts, and he made him ruler over the entire ^(B)province of Babylon, and chief ^[b]prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.

¹⁶ But I personally have heard about you, that you are able to give interpretations and solve difficult problems. Now if you are able to read the inscription and make its ^(A)interpretation known to me, you will be ^(B)clothed with purple and wear a necklace of gold around your neck, and you will have authority as the third ruler in the kingdom.”

²⁹ Then Belshazzar gave orders, and they ^(A)clothed Daniel with purple and put a necklace of gold around his neck, and issued a proclamation concerning him that he now had authority as the third ruler in the kingdom.

² and over them, three commissioners (of whom ^(A)Daniel was one), so that these satraps would be accountable to them, and that the king would not ^[a]suffer ^(B)loss. ³ Then this Daniel began distinguishing himself ^[b]among the commissioners and satraps because ^[c]he possessed an ^(C)extraordinary spirit, and the king intended to appoint him over the ^(D)entire kingdom.
