⁴ Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens,^(A) so that we may make a name^(B) for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered^(C) over the face of the whole earth.”^(D)

¹⁴ None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.”^(A)

¹⁶ But I will spare a few of them from the sword, famine and plague, so that in the nations where they go they may acknowledge all their detestable practices. Then they will know that I am the Lord.^(A)”

²² Yet there will be some survivors^(A)—sons and daughters who will be brought out of it.^(B) They will come to you, and when you see their conduct^(C) and their actions, you will be consoled^(D) regarding the disaster I have brought on Jerusalem—every disaster I have brought on it.
