¹⁹ When someone tells you to consult^(A) mediums and spiritists,^(B) who whisper and mutter,^(C) should not a people inquire^(D) of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

⁹ So do not listen to your prophets,^(A) your diviners,^(B) your interpreters of dreams,^(C) your mediums^(D) or your sorcerers^(E) who tell you, ‘You will not serve^(F) the king of Babylon.’

² So the king summoned the magicians,^(A) enchanters, sorcerers^(B) and astrologers^[a](C) to tell him what he had dreamed.^(D) When they came in and stood before the king,

¹⁰ The astrologers^(A) answered the king, “There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer.^(B)
