The Cure of Simon’s Mother-in-Law. 29 (A)On leaving the synagogue he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. 30 Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. 31 He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.
Other Healings. 32 When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. 33 The whole town was gathered at the door. 34 He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him.

She got up immediately and waited on them.

He laid his hands on each of them and cured them. 41 [b]And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.”(C) But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Messiah.

- 4:38 The house of Simon: because of Luke’s arrangement of material, the reader has not yet been introduced to Simon (cf. Mk 1:16–18, 29–31). Situated as it is before the call of Simon (Lk 5:1–11), it helps the reader to understand Simon’s eagerness to do what Jesus says (Lk 5:5) and to follow him (Lk 5:11).
- 4:41 They knew that he was the Messiah: that is, the Christ (see note on Lk 2:11).
