³When Judas, His betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was gripped with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,^(A) ⁴saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They replied, “What is that to us? See to that yourself!” ⁵And throwing the pieces of silver into the temple sanctuary, he left; and went away and ^[a]hanged himself.

Matthew 27:5 Possibly people later threw Judas’ body over the cliff into the Valley of Hinnom where his body was mangled on the rocks below (Acts 1:18). Suicides were not given a proper burial.
