⁸ He took Agag^(A) king of the Amalekites alive,^(B) and all his people he totally destroyed with the sword.

³² Then Samuel said, “Bring me Agag king of the Amalekites.”

Agag came to him in chains.^[a] And he thought, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”

⁴³ They killed the remaining Amalekites^(A) who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.

Haman’s Plot to Destroy the Jews

3 After these events, King Xerxes honored Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite,^(A) elevating him and giving him a seat of honor higher than that of all the other nobles.

³ Esther again pleaded with the king, falling at his feet and weeping. She begged him to put an end to the evil plan of Haman the Agagite,^(A) which he had devised against the Jews.

²⁴ For Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite,^(A) the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them and had cast the pur^(B) (that is, the lot^(C)) for their ruin and destruction.^(D)
