Psalm 12[a]

For the director of music. According to sheminith.[b] A psalm of David.

Help, Lord, for no one is faithful anymore;(A)
    those who are loyal have vanished from the human race.
Everyone lies(B) to their neighbor;
    they flatter with their lips
    but harbor deception in their hearts.(C)

May the Lord silence all flattering lips(D)
    and every boastful tongue—(E)
those who say,
    “By our tongues we will prevail;(F)
    our own lips will defend us—who is lord over us?”

“Because the poor are plundered(G) and the needy groan,(H)
    I will now arise,(I)” says the Lord.
    “I will protect them(J) from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,(K)
    like silver purified(L) in a crucible,(M)
    like gold[c] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe(N)
    and will protect us forever from the wicked,(O)
who freely strut(P) about
    when what is vile is honored by the human race.

Psalm 13[d]

For the director of music. A psalm of David.

How long,(Q) Lord? Will you forget me(R) forever?
    How long will you hide your face(S) from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts(T)
    and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
    How long will my enemy triumph over me?(U)

Look on me(V) and answer,(W) Lord my God.
    Give light to my eyes,(X) or I will sleep in death,(Y)
and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,(Z)
    and my foes will rejoice when I fall.(AA)

But I trust in your unfailing love;(AB)
    my heart rejoices in your salvation.(AC)
I will sing(AD) the Lord’s praise,
    for he has been good to me.

Psalm 14(AE)

For the director of music. Of David.

The fool[e] says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”(AF)
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven(AG)
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,(AH)
    any who seek God.(AI)
All have turned away,(AJ) all have become corrupt;(AK)
    there is no one who does good,(AL)
    not even one.(AM)

Do all these evildoers know nothing?(AN)

They devour my people(AO) as though eating bread;
    they never call on the Lord.(AP)
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is their refuge.(AQ)

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!(AR)
    When the Lord restores(AS) his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Psalm 15

A psalm of David.

Lord, who may dwell(AT) in your sacred tent?(AU)
    Who may live on your holy mountain?(AV)

The one whose walk is blameless,(AW)
    who does what is righteous,
    who speaks the truth(AX) from their heart;
whose tongue utters no slander,(AY)
    who does no wrong to a neighbor,
    and casts no slur on others;
who despises a vile person
    but honors(AZ) those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath(BA) even when it hurts,
    and does not change their mind;
who lends money to the poor without interest;(BB)
    who does not accept a bribe(BC) against the innocent.

Whoever does these things
    will never be shaken.(BD)

Psalm 16

A miktam[f] of David.

Keep me safe,(BE) my God,
    for in you I take refuge.(BF)

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;(BG)
    apart from you I have no good thing.”(BH)
I say of the holy people(BI) who are in the land,(BJ)
    “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
Those who run after other gods(BK) will suffer(BL) more and more.
    I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
    or take up their names(BM) on my lips.

Lord, you alone are my portion(BN) and my cup;(BO)
    you make my lot(BP) secure.
The boundary lines(BQ) have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.(BR)
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;(BS)
    even at night(BT) my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand,(BU) I will not be shaken.(BV)

Therefore my heart is glad(BW) and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest secure,(BX)
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,(BY)
    nor will you let your faithful[g] one(BZ) see decay.(CA)
11 You make known to me the path of life;(CB)
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,(CC)
    with eternal pleasures(CD) at your right hand.(CE)

Psalm 17

A prayer of David.

Hear me,(CF) Lord, my plea is just;
    listen to my cry.(CG)
Hear(CH) my prayer—
    it does not rise from deceitful lips.(CI)
Let my vindication(CJ) come from you;
    may your eyes see what is right.(CK)

Though you probe my heart,(CL)
    though you examine me at night and test me,(CM)
you will find that I have planned no evil;(CN)
    my mouth has not transgressed.(CO)
Though people tried to bribe me,
    I have kept myself from the ways of the violent
    through what your lips have commanded.
My steps have held to your paths;(CP)
    my feet have not stumbled.(CQ)

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;(CR)
    turn your ear to me(CS) and hear my prayer.(CT)
Show me the wonders of your great love,(CU)
    you who save by your right hand(CV)
    those who take refuge(CW) in you from their foes.
Keep me(CX) as the apple of your eye;(CY)
    hide me(CZ) in the shadow of your wings(DA)
from the wicked who are out to destroy me,
    from my mortal enemies who surround me.(DB)

10 They close up their callous hearts,(DC)
    and their mouths speak with arrogance.(DD)
11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me,(DE)
    with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion(DF) hungry for prey,(DG)
    like a fierce lion crouching in cover.

13 Rise up,(DH) Lord, confront them, bring them down;(DI)
    with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
14 By your hand save me from such people, Lord,
    from those of this world(DJ) whose reward is in this life.(DK)
May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies;
    may their children gorge themselves on it,
    and may there be leftovers(DL) for their little ones.

15 As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face;
    when I awake,(DM) I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.(DN)

The heavens(A) declare(B) the glory of God;(C)

Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.(G)
In the heavens God has pitched a tent(H) for the sun.(I)
    It is like a bridegroom(J) coming out of his chamber,(K)
    like a champion(L) rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens(M)
    and makes its circuit to the other;(N)
    nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The law of the Lord(O) is perfect,(P)

The decrees of the Lord are firm,
    and all of them are righteous.(X)

10 They are more precious than gold,(Y)
    than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,(Z)
    than honey from the honeycomb.(AA)
11 By them your servant is warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.
12 But who can discern their own errors?
    Forgive my hidden faults.(AB)
13 Keep your servant also from willful sins;(AC)
    may they not rule over me.(AD)
Then I will be blameless,(AE)
    innocent of great transgression.

14 May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
    be pleasing(AF) in your sight,
    Lord, my Rock(AG) and my Redeemer.(AH)

    and lift up our banners(AU) in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.(AV)

Now this I know:
    The Lord gives victory to his anointed.(AW)
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
    with the victorious power of his right hand.(AX)
Some trust in chariots(AY) and some in horses,(AZ)
    but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.(BA)
They are brought to their knees and fall,(BB)
    but we rise up(BC) and stand firm.(BD)
Lord, give victory to the king!
    Answer us(BE) when we call!

The king rejoices in your strength, Lord.(BF)

You came to greet him with rich blessings
    and placed a crown of pure gold(BI) on his head.(BJ)
He asked you for life, and you gave it to him—
    length of days, for ever and ever.(BK)
Through the victories(BL) you gave, his glory is great;
    you have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.(BM)
Surely you have granted him unending blessings
    and made him glad with the joy(BN) of your presence.(BO)
For the king trusts in the Lord;(BP)
    through the unfailing love(BQ) of the Most High(BR)
    he will not be shaken.(BS)

Your hand will lay hold(BT) on all your enemies;

The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath,
    and his fire will consume them.(BU)
10 You will destroy their descendants from the earth,
    their posterity from mankind.(BV)
11 Though they plot evil(BW) against you

    when you aim at them with drawn bow.

13 Be exalted(BZ) in your strength, Lord;(CA)
