1 Corinthians 10:6-8

6 From this lesson we are warned that we must not desire evil things as they did, 7 nor worship idols as they did. (The Scriptures tell us, “The people sat down to eat and drink and then got up to dance” in worship of the golden calf.)
8 Another lesson for us is what happened when some of them sinned with other men’s wives, and 23,000 fell dead in one day.

New International Version
6 Now these things occurred as examples(A) to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters,(B) as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a](C) 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died.(D)
