1 Corinthians 11:19-21 New American Bible (Revised Edition) (NABRE)

19 there have to be factions among you in order that [also] those who are approved among you may become known.[a] 20 When you meet in one place, then, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper, 21 for in eating, each one goes ahead with his own supper, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk.

Footnotes:

  1. 11:19 That…those who are approved among you may become known: Paul situates their divisions within the context of the eschatological separation of the authentic from the inauthentic and the final revelation of the difference. The notion of authenticity-testing recurs in the injunction to self-examination in view of present and future judgment (1 Cor 11:28–32).
