²⁵ Now everyone who competes exercises self-control^(A) in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown,^(B) but we an imperishable crown.

⁸ There is reserved for me the crown^(A) of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,^(B) will give me on that day, and not only to me, but to all those who have loved his appearing.^[a](C)

⁴ And when the chief Shepherd^(A) appears, you will receive the unfading crown^(B) of glory.

¹⁰ Don’t be afraid of what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil^(A) is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will experience affliction for ten days.^(B) Be faithful to the point of death,^(C) and I will give you the crown^[a] of life.^(D)
