30 Ahijah tore his new robe into twelve parts 31 and said to Jeroboam, “Take ten of these pieces, for the Lord God of Israel says, ‘I will tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon and give ten of the tribes to you! 32 But I will leave him one tribe[a] for the sake of my servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen above all the other cities of Israel.

30 and Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he was wearing and tore(A) it into twelve pieces. 31 Then he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘See, I am going to tear(B) the kingdom out of Solomon’s hand and give you ten tribes. 32 But for the sake(C) of my servant David and the city of Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, he will have one tribe.
