²⁸ So the king ^[a]consulted, and he ^(A)made two golden ^(B)calves; and he said to ^[b]the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; ^(C)behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.” ²⁹ And he set up ^(D)one in ^(E)Bethel, and the other he put in ^(F)Dan. ³⁰ Now ^(G)this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan.

³³ After this event, Jeroboam did not ^[a]abandon his evil way, but he ^(A)again ^[b]appointed priests of the high places from ^[c]all the people; ^(B)anyone who wanted, he ordained, and he became ^[d]one of the priests of the high places. ^34 [e](C)This event also became a sin of the house of Jeroboam, ^(D)even to wipe it out and eliminate it from the face of the earth.
