²¹And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Jehovah had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there: and his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess. ²²And Judah did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, above all that their fathers had done. ²³For they also built them high places, and ^[a]pillars, and Asherim, on every high hill, and under every green tree;

Rehoboam King of Judah^(A)

²¹Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.^(B)

²²Judah^(C) did evil in the eyes of the Lord. By the sins they committed they stirred up his jealous anger^(D) more than those who were before them had done. ²³They also set up for themselves high places, sacred stones^(E) and Asherah poles^(F) on every high hill and under every spreading tree.^(G)
