Chapter 17
Elijah Predicts a Drought.[a] 1 Now Elijah the Tishbite from Tishbe in Gilead said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives before whom I stand, there shall be no dew or rain these years except at my word.”
2 Then the word of the Lord came to him saying, 3 “Go forth from here and go eastward to the Wadi Kerith near the Jordan and hide there.

- 1 Kings 17:1 The name “Elijah” means “The Lord is my God” and really suits him: in the midst of a people who prostrate themselves before idols, the prophet is a champion of the living God. Elijah confronted Ahab by predicting the long drought that would not be remedied by worshiping Baal, but only through the power of the true God.

17 Now Elijah(A) the Tishbite, from Tishbe[a] in Gilead,(B) said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain(C) in the next few years except at my word.”
