So he arose and ate and drank, and he journeyed in the strength of that food for (A)forty days and forty nights to (B)Horeb, the mountain of God.

Elijah at Horeb

Then he came there to a cave and spent the night there; and behold, (C)the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 And he said, “(D)I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of armies; for the sons of Israel have abandoned Your covenant, (E)torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And (F)I alone am left; and they have sought to take my life.”

So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty(A) days and forty nights until he reached Horeb,(B) the mountain of God. There he went into a cave(C) and spent the night.

The Lord Appears to Elijah

And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”(D)

10 He replied, “I have been very zealous(E) for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant,(F) torn down your altars,(G) and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left,(H) and now they are trying to kill me too.”
