5 “You also know what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me(A) and what he did to the two commanders of Israel’s army, Abner son of Ner(B) and Amasa son of Jether.(C) He murdered them in a time of peace to avenge blood shed in war. He spilled that blood on his own waistband and on the sandals of his feet.[a]

5 “Now you yourself know what Joab(A) son of Zeruiah did to me—what he did to the two commanders of Israel’s armies, Abner(B) son of Ner and Amasa(C) son of Jether. He killed them, shedding their blood in peacetime as if in battle, and with that blood he stained the belt around his waist and the sandals on his feet.
