²⁰ Ahab said to Elijah, “So, my enemy, you’ve found me, have you?” ^(A)

He replied, “I have found you because you devoted^(B) yourself to do what is evil in the Lord’s sight.

²⁵ Still, there was no one like Ahab, who devoted himself to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight, because his wife Jezebel incited him.^(A)

¹⁷ They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire^[a](A) and practiced divination and interpreted omens.^(B) They devoted themselves to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight and angered him.^(C)

⁶ For we know that our old self^[a](A) was crucified with him^(B) so that the body ruled by sin^[b] might be rendered powerless^(C) so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,

³ In the same way we also, when we were children, were in slavery under the elements^[a] of the world.^(A)
