2 so as to live for the rest of your earthly life[a] no longer by human desires but by the will of God. 3 You have already spent enough time in doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in licentiousness, passions, drunkenness, revels, carousing, and lawless idolatry. 4 They are surprised that you no longer join them in the same excesses of dissipation, and so they blaspheme.[b]

2 As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires,(A) but rather for the will of God. 3 For you have spent enough time in the past(B) doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.(C) 4 They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.(D)
