8 Saul was furious and resented this song. “They credited tens of thousands to David,” he complained, “but they only credited me with thousands. What more can he have but the kingdom?” (A) 9 So Saul watched David jealously from that day forward.
Saul Attempts to Kill David
10 The next day an evil spirit sent from God came powerfully on Saul,(B) and he began to rave[a] inside the palace. David was playing the lyre as usual,(C) but Saul was holding a spear,(D)

8 Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought, “but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?(A)” 9 And from that time on Saul kept a close(B) eye on David.
10 The next day an evil[a] spirit(C) from God came forcefully on Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the lyre,(D) as he usually(E) did. Saul had a spear(F) in his hand
