Amplified Bible
17 So the sin of the [two] young men [Hophni and Phinehas] was very great before the Lord, for the men treated the offering of the Lord disrespectfully.
Samuel before the Lord as a Boy
18 Now Samuel was ministering before the Lord, as a child dressed in a linen ephod [a sacred item of priestly clothing]. 19 Moreover, his mother would make him a little robe and would bring it up to him each year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

New International Version
17 This sin of the young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they[a] were treating the Lord’s offering with contempt.(A)
18 But Samuel was ministering(B) before the Lord—a boy wearing a linen ephod.(C) 19 Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the annual(D) sacrifice.
