2 There was a man in Maon whose property was in Carmel. The man was very rich; he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. He was shearing his sheep in Carmel.(A) 3 Now the name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife was Abigail. The woman was clever and beautiful, but the man was surly and mean; he was a Calebite. 4 David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep.

2 A certain man in Maon,(A) who had property there at Carmel, was very wealthy.(B) He had a thousand goats and three thousand sheep, which he was shearing(C) in Carmel. 3 His name was Nabal and his wife’s name was Abigail.(D) She was an intelligent and beautiful woman, but her husband was surly and mean in his dealings—he was a Calebite.(E)
4 While David was in the wilderness, he heard that Nabal was shearing sheep.
