1 Samuel 27:10-12
Holman Christian Standard Bible
10 who inquired, “Where did you raid today?”[a](A)
David replied, “The south country of Judah,” “The south country of the Jerahmeelites,”(B) or “Against the south country of the Kenites.”(C)
11 David did not let a man or woman live to be brought to Gath, for he said, “Or they will inform on us and say, ‘This is what David did.’” This was David’s custom during the whole time he stayed in the Philistine territory. 12 So Achish trusted David, thinking, “Since he has made himself detestable to his people Israel, he will be my servant forever.”

New International Version
10 When Achish asked, “Where did you go raiding today?” David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah” or “Against the Negev of Jerahmeel(A)” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.(B)” 11 He did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought, “They might inform on us and say, ‘This is what David did.’” And such was his practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory. 12 Achish trusted David and said to himself, “He has become so obnoxious(C) to his people, the Israelites, that he will be my servant for life.(D)”
