1 Samuel 27:9-11
New American Standard Bible 1995
9 David [a]attacked the land and did not leave a man or a woman alive, and he (A)took away the sheep, the cattle, the donkeys, the camels, and the clothing. Then he returned and came to Achish. 10 Now Achish said, “Where have you (B)made a raid today?” And David said, “Against the [b]Negev of Judah and against the [c]Negev of (C)the Jerahmeelites and against the [d]Negev of (D)the Kenites.” 11 David did not leave a man or a woman alive to bring to Gath, saying, “Otherwise they will tell about us, saying, ‘So has David done and so has been his practice all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”

New International Version
9 Whenever David attacked an area, he did not leave a man or woman alive,(A) but took sheep and cattle, donkeys and camels, and clothes. Then he returned to Achish.
10 When Achish asked, “Where did you go raiding today?” David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah” or “Against the Negev of Jerahmeel(B)” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.(C)” 11 He did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought, “They might inform on us and say, ‘This is what David did.’” And such was his practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory.
