So the Israelites got rid of their idols of Baal and Astarte, and worshiped only the Lord.

Then Samuel called for all the Israelites to meet at Mizpah, telling them, “I will pray to the Lord for you there.” So they all gathered at Mizpah. They drew some water and poured it out as an offering to the Lord and fasted that whole day. They said, “We have sinned against the Lord.” (It was at Mizpah where Samuel settled disputes among the Israelites.)

So the Israelites put away their Baals and Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.

Then Samuel(A) said, “Assemble all Israel at Mizpah,(B) and I will intercede(C) with the Lord for you.” When they had assembled at Mizpah,(D) they drew water and poured(E) it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader[a](F) of Israel at Mizpah.
