⁷ Then Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for ^(A)they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.

¹⁹ But you ^(A)have today rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses; yet you have ^[a]said, ‘No, but set a king over us!’ So now, ^(B)take your stand before Yahweh by your tribes and by your clans.”

¹² But you saw ^(A)that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon came against you, and you said to me, ‘^(B)No, but a king shall reign over us,’ ^(C)although Yahweh your God was your king.
