³ All the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. David made a covenant with them there in the presence of the Lord. They anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord from Samuel.

David Captures Jerusalem

⁴ David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). The Jebusites were living in that part of the land. ⁵ Those living in Jebus said to David, “You will not get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the stronghold of Zion, which became the City of David.
