David in Saul’s Court

¹⁴ Now the Spirit of the Lord had left Saul,^(A) and an evil spirit sent from the Lord began to torment him,

³⁶ Your servant has killed lions and bears; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”

⁴⁷ and this whole assembly will know that it is not by sword or by spear that the Lord saves,^(A) for the battle is the Lord’s.^(B) He will hand you over to us.”

² Even while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led us out to battle and brought us back.^(A) The Lord also said to you, ‘You will shepherd My people Israel and be ruler over Israel.’”
