2 Chronicles 10:3-5
New English Translation
3 They sent for him,[a] and Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 4 “Your father made us work too hard![b] Now if you lighten the demands he made and don’t make us work as hard, we will serve you.”[c] 5 He said to them, “Go away for three days, then return to me.” So the people went away.

- 2 Chronicles 10:4 tn Heb “but you, now, lighten the burdensome work of your father and the heavy yoke which he placed on us, and we will serve you.” In the Hebrew text the prefixed verbal form with vav (וְנַעַבְדֶךָ, venaʿavedekha, “and we will serve you”) following the imperative (הָקֵל, haqel, “lighten”) indicates purpose/result. The conditional sentence used in the present translation is an attempt to bring out the logical relationship between these forms.

New International Version
3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all Israel(A) went to Rehoboam and said to him: 4 “Your father put a heavy yoke on us,(B) but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
5 Rehoboam answered, “Come back to me in three days.” So the people went away.
