6 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the royal family of Ahab had done. In fact, he married a daughter of Ahab. Jehoram did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord. 7 But the Lord didn’t want to destroy the royal family of David. That’s because the Lord had made a covenant with him. The Lord had promised to keep the lamp of David’s kingdom burning brightly. The Lord had promised that for David and his children after him forever.
8 When Jehoram was king over Judah, Edom refused to remain under Judah’s control. They set up their own king.

6 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel,(A) as the house of Ahab had done, for he married a daughter of Ahab.(B) He did evil in the eyes of the Lord. 7 Nevertheless, because of the covenant the Lord had made with David,(C) the Lord was not willing to destroy the house of David.(D) He had promised to maintain a lamp(E) for him and his descendants forever.
8 In the time of Jehoram, Edom(F) rebelled against Judah and set up its own king.
