20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the Priest, which stood [a]above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God, Why transgress ye the commandments of the Lord? surely ye shall not prosper: because ye have forsaken the Lord, he also hath forsaken you.

21 Then they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the [b]commandment of the king, in the court of the house of the Lord.

22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The Lord [c]look upon it and require it.

20 Then the Spirit(A) of God came on Zechariah(B) son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: ‘Why do you disobey the Lord’s commands? You will not prosper.(C) Because you have forsaken the Lord, he has forsaken(D) you.’”

21 But they plotted against him, and by order of the king they stoned(E) him to death(F) in the courtyard of the Lord’s temple.(G) 22 King Joash did not remember the kindness Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had shown him but killed his son, who said as he lay dying, “May the Lord see this and call you to account.”(H)
