The Levites Did Not Act Quickly

Now it happened afterwards, that Joash [a]had in his heart (A)to restore the house of Yahweh. And he gathered the priests and Levites and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah and gather money from all (B)Israel to [b]repair the house of your God [c]annually, and you shall do the matter quickly.” But the Levites did not act quickly. So the king called for Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, “Why have you not required the Levites to bring in from Judah and from Jerusalem (C)the levy fixed by Moses the servant of Yahweh on the congregation of Israel (D)for the tent of the testimony?”

Some time later Joash decided to restore the temple of the Lord. He called together the priests and Levites and said to them, “Go to the towns of Judah and collect the money(A) due annually from all Israel,(B) to repair the temple of your God. Do it now.” But the Levites(C) did not act at once.

Therefore the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, “Why haven’t you required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the Lord and by the assembly of Israel for the tent of the covenant law?”(D)
