After this, Joash wanted to renovate Yahweh’s temple. He gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them, “Go to the cities of Judah, and collect money throughout Israel to repair the temple of your Elohim every year. Do it immediately!” But the Levites didn’t do it immediately.

So the king called for the chief priest Jehoiada and asked him, “Why didn’t you require the Levites to bring the contributions from Judah and Jerusalem? Yahweh’s servant Moses and the assembly had required Israel to give contributions for the use of the tent containing the words of God’s promise.”

Some time later Joash decided to restore the temple of the Lord. He called together the priests and Levites and said to them, “Go to the towns of Judah and collect the money(A) due annually from all Israel,(B) to repair the temple of your God. Do it now.” But the Levites(C) did not act at once.

Therefore the king summoned Jehoiada the chief priest and said to him, “Why haven’t you required the Levites to bring in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax imposed by Moses the servant of the Lord and by the assembly of Israel for the tent of the covenant law?”(D)
