19 Then the Chaldeans burned God’s temple.(A) They tore down Jerusalem’s wall, burned down all its palaces, and destroyed all its valuable articles.

20 He deported those who escaped from the sword to Babylon, and they became servants to him and his sons until the rise of the Persian[a] kingdom.(B) 21 This fulfilled the word of the Lord through Jeremiah(C) and the land enjoyed its Sabbath rest all the days of the desolation(D) until 70 years were fulfilled.

On that day

I, Yahweh, watch over it;
I water it regularly.

so that no one disturbs it.
I am not angry,
but if it produces thorns and briers(B) for Me,
I will fight against it, trample it,
and burn it to the ground.
Or let it take hold of My strength;
let it make peace with Me—
make peace with Me.
In days to come, Jacob will take root.(C)
Israel will blossom and bloom(D)
and fill the whole world with fruit.
