9 in order that I may not seem[a] as-if I would [merely] frighten you by my letters! 10 Because “The letters”, he[b] says, “are weighty and strong, but the presence of his body is weak, and his speaking is treated-with-contempt[c]”. 11 Let such a one consider this: that such as we are in word by letters while absent, such ones we are also in deed while present!

9 I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10 For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive(A) and his speaking amounts to nothing.”(B) 11 Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.
