⁹ Now Sennacherib received a report that Tirhakah, the king of Cush,^[a] was marching out to fight against him. So he again sent messengers to Hezekiah with this word:

³ Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant^(A) Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years,^(B) as a sign^(C) and portent^(D) against Egypt^(E) and Cush,^{[a](F) 4} so the king^(G) of Assyria will lead away stripped^(H) and barefoot the Egyptian captives^(I) and Cushite^(J) exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared^(K)—to Egypt’s shame.^{(L) 5} Those who trusted^(M) in Cush^(N) and boasted in Egypt^(O) will be dismayed and put to shame.^(P)

⁵ Cush and Libya,^(D) Lydia and all Arabia,^(E) Kub and the people^(F) of the covenant land will fall by the sword along with Egypt.^(G)

⁹ “‘On that day messengers will go out from me in ships to frighten Cush^(A) out of her complacency. Anguish^(B) will take hold of them on the day of Egypt’s doom, for it is sure to come.^(C)
