The Folly of Not Trusting God

⁶ Look! You are trusting in the ^(A)staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who ^(B)trust in him.

¹⁴ saying, ‘No, but we will go to the land of ^(A)Egypt where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor be hungry for bread, and there we will dwell’—

¹⁵ But ^(A)he rebelled against him by sending his ambassadors to Egypt, ^(B)that they might give him horses and many people. ^(C)Will he prosper? Will he who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and still be delivered?

¹⁶ No longer shall it be ^(A)the confidence of the house of Israel, but will remind them of their iniquity when they turned to follow them. Then they shall know that I am the Lord God.” ’ ”
