³²They buried Avner at Hevron; the king wept aloud at Avner’s grave, and all the people wept. ³³The king sang this lament over Avner:

“Should Avner have died like a thug?
³⁴Your hands weren’t tied, your feet weren’t fettered;
you fell like one who falls at the hands
of criminals.”

Then all the people wept over him more than ever.

³²They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept^(A) aloud at Abner’s tomb. All the people wept also.

³³The king sang this lament^(B) for Abner:

“Should Abner have died as the lawless die?
³⁴ Your hands were not bound,
your feet were not fettered.^(C)
You fell as one falls before the wicked.”

And all the people wept over him again.
