^25 (A)He restored the border of Israel from ^(B)the entrance of Hamath as far as ^(C)the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, which He spoke ^[a]through His servant ^(D)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from ^(E)Gath-hepher.

³⁹ But He answered and said to them, “^(A)An evil and adulterous generation craves a ^[a]sign; and so no ^[b]sign will be given to it except the ^[c]sign of Jonah the prophet; ⁴⁰ for just as ^(B)Jonah was in the stomach of the sea monster for three days and three nights, so will ^(C)the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for ^(D)three days and three nights. ^41 (E)The men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation at the judgment, and will condemn it because ^(F)they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and behold, something ^(G)greater than Jonah is here.

^4 (A)An evil and adulterous generation wants a ^[a]sign; and so a ^[b]sign will not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.

The Sign of Jonah

²⁹ Now as the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “^(A)This generation is a wicked generation; it ^(B)demands a ^[a]sign, and so no ^[b]sign will be given to it except the ^[c]sign of Jonah. ³⁰ For just as ^(C)Jonah became a ^[d]sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
