³⁷ But Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, king of Geshur.^(A) And David mourned for his son^[a] every day.

³⁸ After Absalom had fled to Geshur and had been there three years, ³⁹ King David^[b] longed to go to Absalom, for David had finished grieving over Amnon’s death.
