17 The crowd[a] then grabbed Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and beat him right there in the courtroom. But Gallio paid no attention.
Paul Returns to Antioch of Syria
18 Paul stayed in Corinth for some time after that, then said good-bye to the brothers and sisters[b] and went to nearby Cenchrea. There he shaved his head according to Jewish custom, marking the end of a vow. Then he set sail for Syria, taking Priscilla and Aquila with him.
19 They stopped first at the port of Ephesus, where Paul left the others behind. While he was there, he went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews.

New International Version
17 Then the crowd there turned on Sosthenes(A) the synagogue leader(B) and beat him in front of the proconsul; and Gallio showed no concern whatever.
Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos
18 Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters(C) and sailed for Syria,(D) accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila.(E) Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae(F) because of a vow he had taken.(G) 19 They arrived at Ephesus,(H) where Paul left Priscilla and Aquila. He himself went into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews.
